Xmas eve cup
Good friends, a few beers and a lot of hockey is what best describes the Mudhogs Annual X-mas Eve Cup. It started out as a pickup ball hockey game to pass the time on Christmas Eve. Who would have thought hanging outside in the freezing cold with a hockey stick in one hand and a cold beer in the other would be so much fun. But wait a minute lets rethink that after all we are all Canadian and it just makes sense.
Now going into its 11th year of existence its popularity continues to shine right along side the prestigious trophy awarded ti the top team.
The event starts at around 1pm each year and continues until the games have all been played. It began as a 4 team tournament that included one team made up of all Paris boys looking to steal the Cup from the Canning boys. It has grown to include 20+ players, and in 2008 the ceremonial faceoff was conducted by Walter Gretzky! This game is played on foot and is inspired by the good ole days when the young canning boys used to play ball hockey on the Gallant's laneway after school. Now that laneway has turned into a piece of history known today as Gallant Gardens.
Each year this event brings with it some new faces and new memories that will some day grace the Mudhog Hall of Fame.
